Poems for the one who has gone missing
Monday, October 6, 2008

Memories flash like scenes from a movie,
the film is old and grainy.
And yet I still press rewind then play
because I'm desperate.
Desperate to see a smile on our face
because I need to remind myself that you were happy once.
Do you even remember how to smile?
How to laugh?
How to live?
I don't think you do and the truth is,
neither do I.
I've become lost in the past,
the film only nineteen years long.
I've been stuck on chapters eleven through eighteen,
because those are the times when you smiled.
I confess,
I've become obsessed with remembering your smile
because i hate how the tears turned your blue ice eyes
(that I fell in love with)
bright red.
---
How ironic, November eleventh.
The day you disappeared.
It's the day of remembrance.
It says it right there, on my calender.
Did you do that on purpose?
So we'd remember?
Well just so you know,
you're not someone I'd ever forget.
Even before you became lost you were unforgettable.
Even before you shattered my world.
---
I had so many chances and reasons to hate you
and leave you and forget our friendship.
But I never did.
So instead, for fear that me
(and everyone else you cared for)
would leave,
You left first.
